We aspire to provide our tamariki a whare of love, where they are encouraged to have fun, be happy, and develop a love for learning in a play-based environment. We encourage the children to lead the way, providing them with the natural and holistic tools they need to become active participants in their own learning. We believe in free, uninterrupted play where the children are able to learn about their world in their own time, in their own way.
We promote a learning environment which stimulates and challenges children’s thinking, capabilities and ongoing learning. Our approach is to provide a home-like safe and secure, sustainable environment where our tamariki are encouraged to take risks and make discoveries. Support, respect and guidance will always be given to assist learning and to explore the wonder of their imagination. We value our mixed aged centre involving sibling interactions and embrace the concept of tuakana-teina, as children of all ages within our centre learn, teach, foster, care, lead and show respect for one another.
We implement strong, supportive relationships with children and their families, and achieve this through constant communication. We promote peaceful and respectful interactions between all individuals by role modelling responsive techniques and negotiating skills as a basis for the development of genuine relationships. Close connections to the wider community are valued and utilized as a way of extending children’s knowledge in what happens in their world around them.
Kaiako follow our bi-cultural Early Childhood Curriculum ‘Te Whariki’, and incorporate a multi-cultural approach through all teaching and learning experiences. Kaioko will inspire and encourage all tamariki to be proud of who they are and where they come from. We respect all languages and cultures by providing experiences to support individual differences. Teachers are guided by the strands and goals of Te Whariki to help plan and respond to children’s individual needs and interests, dispositions, schemas and urges.
